Out with the old skin and in with
the new. As our skin ages on our face so does the
delicate thin skin on our hands. Skin rejuvenation should
not stop at the face and neck. Old wrinkled tired
looking hands are one of the first true signs of aging.
A lifetime of exposure to the elements and sun in southern
California can lead to pre mature aging of the hands.
Naturally, as the hands age the collagen
breaks down and the bones and veins can become more prominent
making hands look aged. On boney hands that really show
their age Dr. Corbin replaces fat into the patients
hands using autologous fat transfer. He takes fat from somewhere
on the body and injects it into the hands to give them a
more youthful appearance. If the skin has sun damage
another minimally invasive solution is to slightly resurface
or tighten the skin on the hands using Thermage.
A few quick tips to maintaining youthful
looking hands without surgery
1. Use a mild cleansing soap
2. Always moisturize after washing your hands
3. Exfoliate old skin on the hands weekly
4. Don't forget to use sunscreen
5. Protect your hands from harsh chemicals in cleaning agents
6. Moisturize your hands before bed
7. Always wear gloves when gardening or doing yard work
8. Keep the nails well manicured
9. Use a lightening agent to get rid of so - called liver
spots
Recipe for soft hands
To make your own simple exfoliate
at home use 1/4 cup salt or granulated sugar and mix it
with enough baby oil to form a paste. Using the paste rub
your hands together for a few minutes until the old skin
is sloughed off. Rinse with cool water and "Viola"
soft smooth feeling hands.
