What Is a Buttocks Lift?

Weight fluctuations, aging, and genetics can all cause a flat and unshapely buttocks. Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery in Brea and Beverly Hills, CA is pleased to help patients enhance their buttocks by offering butt lift surgery. The Brazilian butt lift augments the butt to help patients naturally gain a fuller, shapelier buttocks. This is achieved through a careful and precise fat transfer process, which uses liposuction to take unwanted fat from one section of your body and then injects it into your butt. Alternatively, a traditional butt lift (also known as a gluteoplasty) is a surgical procedure that helps to smooth, lift, and contour the buttocks to combat sagging that can come with aging or weight loss. This procedure removes excess skin and tightens the buttocks area, but it does not add volume. With many years of advanced training and experience, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frederic Corbin is able to provide natural-looking, stunning results.

Ideal Candidates for Butt Lifts

Patients will be evaluated to determine if they are a candidate for the Brazilian butt lift, traditional butt lift, or a combination of the two surgeries. You may be a good candidate for the Brazilian butt lift if you're seeking to add fullness to your buttocks and have adequate fat in other areas to remove for the grafting and transfer process. If you're of a lighter bodyweight or have insufficient fat to extract and purify, then you may not be a good fit for this treatment. In addition, it is also crucial to have healthy skin elasticity. If your lower body has loose and sagging skin that you'd like tightened, then you may be a better candidate for traditional butt lift surgery.

Surgical Technique

A buttocks lift is an outpatient treatment done under anesthesia, usually taking approximately 2 – 3 hours. For a Brazilian butt lift, liposuction will be used first to safely remove fat from specific locations on the body. This is followed by the injection process, where the harvested fat tissue is injected layer by layer into the butt, followed by a gentle massage to ensure the surface is smooth. During traditional butt lift surgery, excess skin will be excised from the buttocks, and the skin will be pulled taut and sutured back into place. You will have to keep the incisions sanitized, covered, and wrapped with compression garments.

What to Expect After Butt Enhancement

Following your buttocks lift, you will be sent home to heal. You may have bruising and discomfort on multiple sections of your body, depending on which procedure was performed. It's important not to place additional weight on your rear end for at least two weeks after surgery. As soon as the swelling has gone away, results are usually noticeable, but most patients see the full outcome about 4 – 6 weeks after surgery. Brazilian butt lift patients generally notice a fuller and shapelier rear end, while patients who underwent a traditional butt lift tend to see a more toned, youthful, and attractive buttocks. Dr. Corbin recommends maintaining a stable weight to help ensure your results last a long time.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQ

How much does a Brazilian butt lift cost?
The total price of your Brazilian butt lift will include liposuction, fat transfer surgery, anesthesia, facility fees, and care before and after your surgery. Once Dr. Corbin has created your BBL surgical plan, he will be better able to give you cost estimates. Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery accepts many payments and we can give you information on low-interest medical financing.

Should I get implants or a fat transfer?
If you want to add volume to your buttocks, you can get butt augmentation using either implants or a fat transfer, which is commonly called a Brazilian butt lift. During your consultation, Dr. Corbin will explain both methods and help you choose which fits your body and wants. He will also assess your body to find the best areas that would benefit from liposuction (usually the thighs, back, or stomach). If you have a low body fat percentage, you may not be a candidate for a Brazilian butt lift.

How long will my results last?
While some fat might be reabsorbed after the transfer, the majority of the fat will remain in its new location for many years. To maintain your results, you should maintain a steady weight as major weight loss or gain can alter your BBL results. This is why Dr. Corbin highly recommends you be at a healthy weight prior to your Brazilian butt lift so it is easy for you to maintain.

Will a Brazilian butt lift remove loose skin?
The name of the surgery, Brazilian butt lift, is confusing because it is not really a butt lift, which eliminates loose and sagging skin from the buttocks. However, the new volume transferred to your buttocks during a BBL can fill some of the loose skin. If you have moderate to severe loose skin in your buttocks, you might need a butt lift with a BBL. Dr. Corbin will explain your options depending on your needs and concerns in your initial consultation.
