What is a thigh lift?

Weight loss can be a huge triumph for many people. But men and women who make it to their weight loss goals sometimes need one more step to complete their body transformation. Based on how long you were overweight and how much weight you lost, hanging skin might be a separate concern if your skin was unable to mold to the smaller shape and size of your body. The thighs can be particular areas of trouble for many patients. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frederic Corbin performs surgical thigh lifts (also known as thighplasty), which removes loose skin from the outer and inner thighs to create a tighter, more contoured look. Thighplasty surgery at Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery has increased in popularity because it can produce natural-looking results for patients with loose skin on their thighs.

Ideal Candidates for thighplasty

Thighplasty is a skin removal and skin tightening procedure that addresses excess thigh skin. Thigh lift surgery is typically a post-weight-loss procedure. Thigh lift surgery is commonly used on patients who have lost 100 pounds or more. It may also be helpful for older men and women battling loose skin caused by natural aging, as well as with women whose weight changed from pregnancy and childbirth. If you have loose, hanging, or wrinkly skin on your upper thighs (whether it's the outer thighs, inner, or both), this surgery may be an option. Please bear in mind that if cellulite is the main issue, then Dr. Corbin can recommend different treatments to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

What to Expect During a Thigh Lift

For thigh lift surgery, general anesthesia is typically administered. A surgical incision is placed near the top portion of the thigh in the natural crease where the thigh attaches to the torso. This incision usually stretches to the midpoint of the thigh. This allows enough room to perform surgical liposuction (if desired) to remove stubborn pockets of fat and to trim away the excess skin from the upper thigh. The skin will be pulled upward so it can be tightened and secured with sutures. In some cases, an incision may be made underneath the butt or in the outer thigh area, depending on the amount of skin and tissue being removed. This surgery at Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery reshapes the entire thigh area for a shapelier, tighter, more contoured look.

Post-Surgery Recovery Period

Thighplasty typically takes around 2 – 3 hours to complete. As soon as the procedure is over, we'll monitor and examine you before releasing you to go home to recover. There may be swelling, discomfort, and bruising during the first few days of recovery. Within a few days, most patients are able to get up and walk slowly, which is necessary for improved blood circulation and faster healing. The full recovery period usually lasts about 6 – 8 weeks. At-home wound care instructions provided by Dr. Corbin will help your incision heal well. Although patients will have some scarring, the new contour and shape of your thighs can help you boost your self-confidence so you can proudly display your legs.
