What is Breast Augmentation?
Cosmetic breast surgery is a personalized procedure that reshapes the breasts to appear fuller. It is often considered to be one of the most sought-after cosmetic surgeries, as it provides women who dislike how their breasts look numerous opportunities for improvement. Using implants or fat from the patient's body, this enhancement surgery improves breast size and shape and creates a gorgeous and natural-looking outcome. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frederic Corbin is skilled in executing this procedure and performs numerous breast augmentations every year. During your private consultation at Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery in Brea or Beverly Hills, CA, Dr. Corbin will listen to your aesthetic concerns and provide you with all of the choices available. This will allow him to customize a treatment plan to reach your unique goals.
During your consultation with Dr. Corbin, he'll recommend the appropriate implant based on your body shape and the results you wish to achieve. Implants come in varying sizes and shapes — all of which are carefully considered in order to achieve the desired outcome. The most common types of breast implants are silicone and saline, both widely chosen and safely approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Candidates considering saline implants must be at least 18 years old, while patients must be at least 22 years old in order to undergo augmentation with silicone implants. Other options include gummy bear implants and an autologous approach through fat grafting. In addition to the type of implant used, there are other important factors to consider.
Implant size is chosen based on the number of CCs of silicone or saline used. To determine the correct volume, Dr. Corbin will measure how much native breast tissue exists and take into account the size you hope to achieve. In the operating room, it is normal for Dr. Corbin to temporarily switch out multiple implants to get an idea of the best fit.
Implants come in either a teardrop or round shape. Both shapes are widely used; however, most of our patients select a round-shaped implant because it generally looks and feels more natural and adds a fullness to the top of the breast that many patients prefer.
Implant profile references the projection of the breasts. In other words, this is what one sees from the side view. The most common projections include low, intermediate, high, and extra high.
Making Your Choices
These options may be overwhelming, but determining the correct implant is generally somewhat easy once the objectives are outlined during the consultation. These considerations combined with the experience of Dr. Corbin ensure the right outcome is met.
Breast Augmentation Reviews
"Dr. Corbin and his staff have been so amazing throughout my process. I'm 2 weeks post op from a breast augmentation and I am so happy I did it! Dr. Corbin is very professional and gives you all the facts upfront and doesn't push you to decide anything you wouldn't want to do. I felt 100% comfortable. I now have the look I've always wanted. The staff is super sweet and also very helpful. Dee spent time talking with me and answering any questions I had. My nurse Ashley was great as well. Mewzette is also very helpful. I never felt nervous and if I had to do it all over again I would. Thank you Dr. Corbin and staff!"- L.K. / Yelp / Jun 20, 2018

"I had a breast augmentation with a lift in December 2016 at Dr. Corbin's Brea office. After losing 80 lbs I had sagging and my breasts were completely different shapes, sizes and even positions! The consultation process was so easy and my surgery was perfect. Dr. Corbin's work is impeccable! The recovery was without issue- I was back to work after a long weekend (Thurs- Mon) I had very little pain or bruising after the procedure thanks to his surgical skills! My scarring is also minimal and they came out so incredibly natural looking. My results are so amazing that I've had multiple girlfriends ask for the name of my surgeon. I have no problem referring them to Dr. Corbin! 3 years and a baby later- my breasts still look as amazing as they did when I first got them! Would definitely consider him again in the future."- C.G. / Yelp / Nov 18, 2019
"Dr. Corbin is amazing. I can't believe he has any bad reviews. I think people expect magic when they get a breast augmentation. They can work some miracles, but it just doesn't happen for everyone. These girls that go in with pictures saying "I WANT THIS!" are setting themselves up for failure. They work with what you have. Your breasts will look like an improved version of what you had before. But now about me....haha. I am 2 months in and feel like a different person. They're smooth and natural looking. No one has called me out..they just say...hmm..those got a bit bigger, and scratch their head as they walk away. He didn't steer me to a bigger size, like I hear a lot do. He seems to be a man that prefers natural look, right up my alley. He was blunt and to the point. His assistant (?) Kristen, who is amazing on her own, said some people are put off by his New Yorker attitude..I guess she read yelp. Give me a break. The guy is just so good he doesn't care to schmooze you. I liked that. It all felt real. He had a real take it or leave it attitude. My mother and I are like that and HATE feeling like someone is trying to sell themselves, not their work. My friend also went through him, she actually referred me, and has some of the best implants I have ever seen. She also knows 2 others that went to him and said they're great. He's not gonna hold your hand ladies. He will be blunt, professional, and to the point..but holy cow will you love your breasts. As for ladies who needed revisions, it happens with all the doctors, the best of the best. If I needed one, I'd go back to him, its his work, who best to fix it? And he is an expert at revisions as well. Good luck all!"- J.P. / Yelp / May 22, 2013
"I have nothing but good things to say about Dr Corbin and his staff Dr Corbin he is a very skilled plastic surgeon. He did my nose which it's only been 2 weeks and I have so many complements. Also did a Breast augmentation great job I highly recommend Dr Corbin."- P.V. / Yelp / Oct 18, 2017
Ideal Candidates for Breast Implants
The decision to have mammoplasty (breast augmentation) is personal. If you're considering this treatment, it is important that you do it for the right reasons. You should be healthy and at a normal weight and be the proper age to receive implants. If you are unhappy with the shape of your chest because your breasts appear small or asymmetrical, you may benefit from this surgery. Additionally, if your breasts have been affected by aging, nursing, or weight loss, then this procedure may help to give them life with increased shape and fullness. It may also be a good option if you weight train or have an overall lack of original breast mass.
Breast Aug Surgery Technique
Incision and implant placement are considerations that are decided prior to surgery. During the procedure, Dr. Corbin will make the incision is the chosen place and then slip the implant into its position. There are a couple of techniques that he may use for implant placement: either submuscular placement (under the pec muscle) or behind the breast tissue but over the pectoral muscle. Where to insert the implant depends on a number of factors, including the type and degree of implant enlargement, along with the expert opinion of Dr. Corbin. Regardless of the incision type, scarring is usually minimal. Implant placement is determined based on your implant size, activity level, and body type.
What to Expect with Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient surgery with patients under general anesthesia. After making the incision, Dr. Corbin will insert the chosen implant through that incision, deposit it into a surgically created pocket, and then fit it into its correct position. After this process, he'll carefully secure the incision with sutures or surgical adhesive. All patients will be taken into a recovery area and carefully monitored and screened prior to being released. You will be sent home wearing a compression garment to help reduce swelling. Several days after surgery, the bruising and swelling will slowly start to fade, and your breasts should start to look and feel more normal as they settle in their new position. A large percentage of patients can resume normal activities within the first week; however, you should avoid physical exertion, such as exercise, for a minimum of 6 – 8 weeks. Breast enhancement surgery generally results in gorgeous outcomes that look and feel natural. This procedure can be life changing for many patients, as the outcomes increase their self-confidence.
