What is a Brow Lift?

If you're seeking to rejuvenate a wrinkled or drooping forehead, brow lift surgery can lift your brow so you no longer look so angry or tired. Also called browplasty or a forehead lift, this aesthetic surgery removes excess skin and raises your eyebrows to refresh your face. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frederic Corbin has performed browplasty on many men and women in Brea and Beverly Hills, CA, giving them a lifted, youthful facial appearance. Injectable wrinkle relaxers and fillers are often used alongside brow lift surgery to produce your ideal cosmetic results. We encourage you to contact Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery to book your brow lift consultation.

Am I a Candidate for a Brow Lift?

As you age, skin elasticity decreases and can cause several areas of your face to sag. This is especially true in the upper face region and usually impacts both men and women. When looking in the mirror, do you appear angry or tired, notice frown wrinkles between your eyebrows, or are bothered by your sagging brow? A surgical brow lift at Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery may be the right aesthetic procedure for you.

Brow Lift Surgical Technique

Prior to surgery, anesthesia is administered to the patient. This procedure can be done with general anesthesia or IV sedation, depending on the nature of the surgery. The incision used in a brow lift is determined by the severity of skin sag, if the forehead is affected, and the appearance of the hairline. Some of the different approaches to consider include:

  • Traditional Incision
Also known as the open browplasty incision, this approach makes the incision at the top of the head behind the hairline. The open incision not only hides scarring, but it also provides a certain amount of lift control during the surgery. The open incision often works well for those with both frown lines and a sagging brow. This is typically the best method if you are at risk for a receding hairline.
  • Trichophytic Incision
A trichophytic incision is made right against the patient's hairline. A trichophytic incision allows significant lifting of the brow for patients who have a strong hairline with little risk for recession.
  • Lateral Brow Lift
Also called a temporal browplasty, the lateral technique places the incision within the hairline just above the temples. The lateral incision permits the outer sections of the brow to be lifted and is best for sagging that's visible in the outer brow. It also helps to correct Crow’s feet.
  • Endoscopic Forehead Lift
This is a more modern method employed in a brow lift. It places multiple small incisions in the hairline and inserts a tool known as an endoscope, which is pushed down to the eyebrow to release its attachments. Through the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is repositioned with stitches to place the brow in a better position.

Your Forehead Lift Results

The recovery period for brow lift surgery varies, with more swelling and discomfort occurring with the traditional technique versus the temporal or endoscopic techniques. Overall, there will be some swelling and bruising in the upper portion of the face near the brows and sometimes around the eyes. Dr. Corbin recommends patients sleep with pillows propped under their head for 3 – 4 nights following their surgery, along with applying cold compresses to reduce inflammation. It is critical to avoid any movement or activities that place stress on the face. The average recovery period from this procedure is about 2 – 3 weeks. Many patients see results immediately with a noticeable improvement in fine lines and sagging in the upper portion of the face.

Rejuvenate Your Appearance

Don't let your sagging forehead make people wonder if you're mad, sad, angry, or tired — a brow lift can help to enhance your entire appearance so you look naturally refreshed.
