What is BOTOX?

Reducing the first visible signs of aging in the forehead can be simple and effective with BOTOX injectable treatments at Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery. BOTOX injections may also be recommended for those who want to delay the development of minor expression wrinkles. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frederic Corbin is pleased to offer BOTOX injections at his locations in Brea, CA and Beverly Hills, CA.

This injectable procedure helps many people get the youthful-looking results they want. BOTOX is a filtered strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily slightly weakens the contractions of the facial muscles that allow you to make certain expressions in the upper part of your face. The creases that develop from these continuous muscle contractions are referred to as “dynamic” because they're caused by facial movement. With enough repetition, these expression lines stay visible, even when the face is fully relaxed. BOTOX injectable treatments can significantly modify the depth of these wrinkles by limiting these muscle movements and allowing the skin above those muscles the time to smooth itself naturally.

Do I Need Botox?

BOTOX is often ideal for those who want to soften the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles on their upper face without surgery. BOTOX can also be used as a preventive treatment, even if wrinkles have not yet formed. It may be a great nonsurgical approach if you have obvious forehead lines or noticeable furrows between your brows. It's also often a solution for lines around the eyes. If you experience more severe wrinkles, a combination of BOTOX and a filler may be recommended. Furthermore, if you are over the age of 50 with more advanced elasticity loss, then you might want to consider facelift surgery for optimal results. During your consultation, Dr. Corbin will help you determine if BOTOX treatments are the best for you based on your level of skin laxity and cosmetic goals.

Our Injection Technique

BOTOX treatments are an outpatient procedure at Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery. If it's your first time to visit our office in Brea or Beverly Hills, CA for BOTOX, we usually perform the treatment during the same appointment as your initial consultation with Dr. Corbin. We'll ask you to make different facial expressions using your upper face, like frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., which will allow us to mark where the injections need to be placed. Dr. Corbin most commonly places BOTOX between the brows where the number "11" appears, around the eyes (Crow's feet), and along the forehead.

We'll prepare your skin and inject BOTOX through a fine needle, followed by a cold compress to help prevent bruising, swelling, and discomfort. You can ask for a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally isn't necessary. BOTOX treatments typically take about 10 – 15 minutes and do not require a recovery period.

What to Expect after Your Injections

Following the BOTOX injection, you can resume your daily routine, but you should avoid strenuous activities like exercise for a minimum of 24 hours. You should sleep with your head elevated for the first night and avoid touching your face, which may accidentally spread the BOTOX to other areas. The treated areas of the face may appear bruised, swollen, or red for around 2 – 3 days, but you should not develop any serious or long-lasting side effects. In most cases, it takes about one week for the full results of BOTOX to appear. These results usually last about 3 – 4 months. You can speak to Dr. Corbin about how soon to schedule your next appointment at Dr. Corbin Plastic Surgery to extend your results.

Time to Express Yourself

With BOTOX injections, it's finally possible to frown, laugh, and smile without adding lines and wrinkles to your face. To prevent and smooth dynamic facial lines, we invite you to schedule an appointment with Dr. Corbin at our Brea or Beverly Hills, CA or Beverly Hills, CA office to learn more about this popular nonsurgical injectable.
